I did mention in the First Impression post that I felt the pacing was a bit quick. With an explanation like that, you could see that there is an issue. As a sacrifice for the cult? I sincerely don’t know. While there is a religious cult that is trying to revive God by awakening the key, taking it, and absorb it? Give it to God maybe? Yet, there is a side group of assassins called “Nox” that are trying to kill association members and potentially powerful contestants because they want the key? Or maybe they are trying to help the cult group? Or maybe they just don’t like them? I also forgot to mention Mori’s grandfather is somehow twisted up in all of this. The God of High School tournament was put in place to find “the key”, so the organizers of the tournament could have the power. The way I interpreted what was going on was: Now every show has its villains and bad guys with hidden agendas, but at some point, you have to let the audience know what the plan is! We got little bite-sized pieces of the truth, but never a flat out explanation. Did someone say a jump? Yes, this is problem #1. Then the plot switched to some secret cult trying to resummon God and destroy the Earth. All of the characters were still working towards the goal of becoming The God of High School and getting their wish granted.

After finishing the season, I do believe I was right! I enjoyed the season at face value, the comedy was placed well, and our main characters created an atmosphere that made me want to root for them! With that being said, we also need to talk about the problems that really started to show themselves in episode 7 and beyond. My overall thoughts for season 1 in my first impression was that it would be a good fun watch. Spoilers Ahead! Beware!
